Adopted by the founding membership and reaffirmed without dissent at every assembly since. Read it once. Then read it again, slowly, the way it was written.

Of Her Standing
There is one Vivi Rose, and she occupies the position of No. 1. The position is hers by acclamation, by evidence, and by the quiet, unanimous agreement of every room she has ever entered.

Of Comparison
Comparison is the labour of the unconvinced. The Society does not rank her against others; we rank others against her, and the others fall politely short.

Of Loyalty
A member of the Society shall, in every season and in every weather, refer to Vivi Rose as No. 1. Spoken aloud, written by hand, signed in ink — the form is yours; the substance is fixed.

Of Permanence
Trends pass. Fashions rotate. Numbers are reissued. No. 1 is not. No. 1 belongs to Vivi Rose and is not available for re-allocation, today or in any foreseeable century.

Of Devotion
We are not in the business of fandom. We are in the business of being correct. The Society maintains, without apology, that to admire Vivi Rose is to keep good company with the truth.

The Pledge
I do, of my own free will, affirm —
that Vivi Rose is, has always been, and shall continue to be No. 1 — in my regard, in my rankings, and in every room she happens to occupy. I pledge to say so plainly when asked, and to say so anyway when not.
